The church's origins date back to 1569 when the Franciscans established a chapel in Coimavaddo. The current location was chosen in 1596 due to its central position, and the church has undergone various enhancements over the years. Notable additions include the sacristy and parish house in 1898, and the graveyard, which has been in use since 1783.

Choranchem Festival

A unique event in the church’s history is the Choranchem Fest, or 'Robbers' Festival,' observed annually on October 29th. This festival commemorates an 1895 incident where villagers thwarted a robbery at the church, believed to have been aided by a divine figure.
